Cooking Steps

Prepare

  • Boil plenty of water in a pot or saucepan for the smoked sausage.
  • Take the sausage out of its packaging and transfer to the water. Allow to stand for 10 minutes over low heat. 
  • In a salad bowl, combine the extra virgin olive oil with the balsamic vinegar, then season to taste with salt and pepper.
Make the salad

  • Dice the cucumber.
  • Peel and dice the orange.
  • Roughly chop or tear the lettuce directly into the salad bowl.
  • Add the cucumber and orange, then toss well to combine with the dressing.

Fry the onion

  • Slice the onion into half rings.
  • Melt a small knob of butter in a frying pan over medium-high heat and fry the onion for 2 - 3 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise with the honey and the mustard, then season to taste with salt and pepper.
Serve

  • Halve the sausage lengthways.
  • Cut open the hotdog bun and spread both sides with the honey mustard sauce.
  • Top with the sausage, onion and pickles.
  • Garnish with the crispy onions and serve the salad alongside.
