Cooking Steps

1
  • Preheat the oven to 200°C.
  • Roll out the dough, then divide it into eight long strips.
  • Make a U-shape from each strip, then fold the ends towards the middle of the U-shape, crossing them over to form a pretzel.
  • Repeat for the rest of the strips.
2
  • Transfer the pretzels to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Beat the egg and 1 tsp water together in a small bowl.
  • Brush the pretzels with the egg wash and sprinkle with a pinch of salt.
  • Bake for 10 - 12 minutes, or until golden brown.
3
  • Grate the cheese.
  • Mince the garlic.
  • Mix the garlic with the butter in a small bowl, then season with salt and pepper (see Tip).

Tip: You can also microwave the butter in 30-second bursts in a microwave-safe bowl to soften it up.

4
  • Remove the pretzels from the oven and brush with garlic butter.
  • Sprinkle the cheese over the pretzels, then return to the oven for 1 - 2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
  • Transfer the cheesy pretzels to a plate.
  • Serve with the remaining garlic butter on the side and mustard as preferred.
